This is Team Doghouse

Dorus Honders
As a political scientist and administration specialist working in the nonprofit sector, I quickly, and painfully, discovered that it wasn’t for me. Nonprofit was simply too rigid, bureaucratic, and grey, and my eternal prejudices were found to be true. It was expected of me not to stand out from the crowd, even though I have always been blessed with a drive to distinguish myself. Games I need to win, I must understand all subject matter and, if possible, I long to be of extra value. You could say I am a typical Virgo, as I’m ambitious, a perfectionist and just a touch headstrong.
Recruitment turned out to be the industry where I could accomplish my drive. You get to easily see what’s really going on when giving your full attention to the wishes, demands and motives of your stakeholders. Then, in your own way, you can decide how to get this information across and achieve things that others cannot. For me, there’s nothing more beautiful than connecting two parties with high expectations. Especially when, at first, the candidate wasn’t into the company, and the company was certain they did not even want to speak to this candidate. That’s matchmaking! Doghouse represents a great job in a dynamic market.

After my childhood in Apeldoorn, I moved to Barcelona at 18 to make my dream come true: to become a professional tennis player. My whole youth has been focused on tennis. Top sport requires discipline, perseverance, the willingness to learn (from mistakes) and dealing with disappointment. After two years of plowing the gravel in Spain I went back to study Commercial Business in Amsterdam. The first few months of recruitment were tough, because I had no idea of what I was doing (I didn’t know anything about IT) and so I was working completely outside of my comfort zone! Practice makes perfect, also in recruitment. After a few months, I felt completely at home.
In my opinion, recruitment and top sport have much in common. Dorus and I had the same learning curve in the field of recruitment and where he chose entrepreneurship a long while ago, I followed him end of 2016. Being business partners and friends, we have a great deal of fun in what we do, next to our ambition. In the end, I think that’s the most important. It might be a little cliché, but every day at Doghouse is a good one. The energy in the office and the enthusiasm everyone brings to the floor make for a beautiful day every day.

I’ve obtained a Master’s degree in Human Resource Studies from Tilburg University. After University I worked for an international IT recruitment agency for five years. I learned a lot, but decided to continue my career at Mendix. This software product company with offices in Rotterdam, Boston, London and Frankfurt is very successful and I played a key role in recruiting 140+ new employees during its hypergrowth phase.
Recently, I decided to join Bob van Duijn (Partner) & Dorus Honders (Founder) as a Partner at Doghouse Recruitment. I offer my recruitment services for companies that want to start or scale their Low Code initiatives. Doing this gives me a ton of energy. It’s very fulfilling to help the IT teams of my clients and see the careers of professionals with whom I partner grow. Next to this, I recharge my battery with regular gym visits and trying to keep up with my younger teammates at a local football club. I strongly believe that hard work always pays off – and that’s what I bring to Doghouse.

After years and years of searching, I thought I finally found it: Law. The justice system, criminals, rules and the multi interpretability of legislative texts intrigued me. On the side, I had a job in sales. And however much I wanted to finish my study, my interest in sales grew stronger and stronger. The constant challenges, talking to many different individuals and learning about people are things that I like and need. When I finished my study, I was very sure sales was the field I wanted to continue in.
Now, I’ve known Dorus a few years and he’s always said that we needed to have a chat after I finished my study. Finally, we did. After being recruited into recruiting – Dorus truly knows what he wants – I’m certain I found what I need for my career. A young, energetic learning environment where I can improve my sales skills and become a senior recruiter. Doghouse provides me to work on these challenges and grow every day.

“It’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the dog’. This has been my motto for many years. I am a guy with perseverance, competitive by nature. I like to challenge people, including, or maybe especially myself. In recruitment I have no limitation finding these challenges every day. In a business that is based on failing 80 percent of the time (true fact), you learn to fail, get back to your feet, fail again and get your ass back up.
After my Bachelor of science in Sociology I joined Doghouse Recruitment at the end of 2015, and I have been enjoying the ride ever since. I have learned the recruitment profession from scratch, starting as a junior and first employee of the company and currently leading our desk for DevOps / Cloud positions. In my free time I am into sports, playing field hockey, squash and work-out in the gym. Furthermore, I love to cook, eat good food, drink good wine and hang-out and laugh with friends.

I am Doghouse’s dedicated learning partner, and a human to boot. I enjoy people who dare to step outside their comfort zones, and I get to see this happen in my work all the time. This energizes me, and it makes me feel very involved with the people and companies I work with.
Doghouse is no exception, which is why we’re a great match. I concern myself with questions regarding an organization’s development and the growth of its people. I do this through coaching and consulting. Doghouse is a team of passionate and energetic people who aren’t afraid to meet the unknown.

In 2018 I obtained my Master Degree in Strategic Management at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Connecting with various people in different dynamics / environments is something that gives me energy. This is also the reason why I have acted at different levels in the hotel and catering industry. My work in the hospitality industry in combination with my sport mentality as a (semi-professional) soccer player leads to a strong combination to be successful in the Recruitment industry.
After obtaining my Master’s Degree, I had a good conversation with Stephan. I then decided together with him to start at Doghouse and provide the Mendix market with high-quality recruitment services. During my interviews with the Doghouse team, I got inspired by the energy, drive and professionalism of the team. Every day I / we as Doghouse try to distinguish ourselves in terms of quality. With my passion and intrinsic motivation, I will help our candidates & clients reach their goals!

After my MSc in Change-management, I wanted to make impact on a challenging and ever changing business landscape. I realized these new and changing businesses are all gathered within the IT Industry. The growth of IT is too fast for regular university systems and therefore interesting to learn and gain knowledge every day. This adventure started with an international IT recruitment agency, where I played a big role in recruiting new talents and expanding international businesses.
Afterwards, I wanted to see these IT business processes from up close at one of the big 5 consultancy firms. After more then 2 years of learning, growing and gaining knowledge with consultancy, I moved back to my recruitment roots. The entrepreneurship, the energy and diversity of connecting high skilled talents with impressive new and existing businesses, did the trick! Doghouse provides me the opportunity to embrace this energy and jointly work on a common goal with a bunch of enthusiasts. What more do you want?

I have studied Lifestyle Coaching, because I wanted to help people improve their lives. During my study I worked as a Sales Representative and decided to continue this job after my study, but with an extra touch. I became a Salesmanager in a large high-end gym, which gave me the opportunity to combine sales and coaching. I could improve my sales skills and help people to achieve their fitness goals. Talking to and working with different people with all of them having their own story and their own needs and goals was something I really enjoyed.
As a recruiter you have the opportunity to make a real impact on someone’s live as well. They are looking for their dream role and guidance in the process of finding the perfect job. Focusing on every applicant individually and mapping out their skills, dreams and best step forward, is something what makes Doghouse personal. It gives me a lot of fulfilment, when I see the careers of professionals grow. Getting to know my clients and applicants to make the perfect match has brought my sales skill to a new level. You are in competition to attract top talent, which makes it a challenge every day.

Since obtaining my Schoevers diploma in 2006 I’ve been working as a management assistant / PA at various types of companies, mainly in IT. Now that I work at Doghouse I can say with full conviction that I have finally found my perfect match. That is something that suits well with the Doghouse philosophy: finding the perfect match.
I really enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, open and personal attitude and the driven and energetic people.
As Chief Happiness Officer I ensure that our beautiful office looks neat, that all financial obligations are met and of course I support my colleagues and provide them with their daily vitamins, so they can focus 100% on bringing together innovating businesses and IT professionals.
