My client is a fast-growing, internationally operating scale-up with 400+ colleagues from over 45 nationalities across 10 countries. They're looking for a freelance Engineering Manager to guide two cross-functional squads: a consumer-facing app team, and a Payments & Revenue team building reliable transaction systems in a complex, multi-currency European market.

This is primarily a people-focused leadership role: coaching and mentoring engineers at all levels, while contributing to the broader engineering culture – hiring, responsible AI adoption, and security-first ways of working.

Your profile

• 5+ years as a Software Engineer, plus 5+ years in a formal Engineering Manager role with direct people responsibility
• A track record of “leveling up” engineers, with measurable impact
• A strong communicator who bridges technical trade-offs and business strategy
• Comfortable building alignment across Product, Design, and Data functions

Furthermore

• Freelance assignment, hybrid working
• Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
• Background in Java/Kotlin or mobile development is a plus
• Product-focused experience is a plus

Project details

• Duration: 6–12 months, focus on extension
