Senior Software Engineer
Senior Python Developer (Python & Next.js) - Amsterdam (Hybrid)
Our client is an Amsterdam-based energy trading and optimization company on a mission to accelerate the energy transition.
You'll join the software engineering side of that tech organization as a Senior Python Developer, working on the core systems that turn market and forecasting data into trading decisions. It's a hands-on, senior role: you'll take ownership of the design of key services end to end, with room to shape how new functionality gets built rather than just implementing a spec.
The role leans heavily on strong software design and architecture skills. You'll build and maintain services in Python and JavaScript, with a real emphasis on writing code that scales cleanly as the platform grows, and on making sound decisions around how things are structured in the cloud. Experience mentoring or leading other engineers is a genuine plus, but not a requirement. This is first and foremost a hands-on senior IC role.
Team
This hire joins a growing engineering team within 15+ person tech organization (software, infrastructure and data).
Tech stack
Core Python on the backend. JavaScript and TypeScript on the frontend, built with Next.js. Git for version control. AWS is the cloud platform in use, and comfort designing and building on cloud infrastructure (e.g. services like Lambda, S3 or DynamoDB) is a strong plus. Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, some Kubernetes) is helpful but not essential.
What we're looking for
• 5-10 years of experience as a software developer.
• Strong core Python skills.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript experience, ideally with Next.js.
• Comfortable with Git and modern version control workflows.
• Strong software design and architecture experience: you can make good structural decisions, not just write working code.
• Cloud experience is a strong plus, particularly hands-on AWS experience.
• Leadership or mentoring experience is a bonus, not a requirement.
• A proactive self-starter who's comfortable owning a piece of the system end to end.
Hours and hybrid
Full time, 40 hours per week. 3 days a week on-site in the Amsterdam office.
Salary & contract
€80 – 90K, depending on experience.
Package
• Fully covered travel allowance (NS Traject Vrij).
• Sports subscription (up to €200/year).
• Udemy account plus additional learning budget on request.
